Welcoming the New Guy
by Kendall Clark
The last time I posted about having hired two new employees—Evren Sirin and Mike Grove—I also mentioned that we were looking for another new person to hire, and I listed some of the skills and experience that we were looking for.
That worked out pretty well, as The New Guy started on Monday, and he found out that we were looking for someone like him by reading that weblog post. (Okay, that’s not entirely true, but it’s true enough...)
The New Guy, Mike Smith, has been working for BBN doing OWL and Pellet stuff for a few years. We’re happy to welcome him as he has an impressive set of skills and experiences, and we’re already finding him an interesting, fun person to have around. In addition to doing OWL and SemWeb stuff for BBN, Mike was also at a startup that did email security appliances and apps. We’re really interested in the possibility of a drop-in policy management appliance at some point.
Mike will be working with Evren and Mike Grove—yeah, it’s a problem: I prefer “New Mike” and “Old Mike”, but there’s no settled pattern yet—on Pellet and on some of our integration projects for government clients. We’re also looking seriously at building industrial-strength database support for OWL 1.1 tractable fragments, probably by extending Postgresql. Mike will be leading that work. Fun stuff.
