The Design

Our site design comes from Kate Krizan Design, a small firm in Washington, DC, which handles our corporate and product branding and identity design. If you’re looking for a boutique firm with world class ideas and top-notch customer service, give them a shout.

To move our “print world” branding onto the Web, we chose Jacobus at Azapi—he’s very good and we work exclusively with Azapi, a small South African web design firm, for the HTML and CSS parts of the web apps we build. One nice thing about working with a South African company, in Cape Town, is the on-site visits are great. Azapi is passionate about what they do and take a keen interest in their clients success.

The Site

We use Radiant to manage our site content. Billed as a CMS for “small teams”, it’s worked very well for us. There are some obvious features missing (an abstraction for managing internal links is the biggest), but it’s still early and is extensible enough that we can add them ourselves.

We use WordPress to manage the weblog part of the site because, well, it was the easiest to setup and now we’re a bit stuck with it.

The Host

We’ve been with Joyent since part of it was called TextDrive. Honestly, TextDrive’s shared hosting solution was pretty bad; security breaches in the default setup were common. But the new Joyent Accelerator service, which is based on Solaris 10 zones, has been rock solid. It isn’t cheap, but the service, reliability, and performance have been great so far.
